2026 Mardi Gras Kickoff Party

Bastrop, TX / January 16, 2026 / Lost Pines Toyota, under the ownership of Carlos Liriano, a longtime Louisiana resident who moved to Bastrop in 2012, kicked off the Mardi Gras season in unforgettable fashion with its 3rd Annual Mardi Gras Kick-Off Party on January 10th. The event welcomed hundreds of community members, filling the showroom with music, culture, and the unmistakable spirit of New Orleans, officially marking the start of Mardi Gras season in Bastrop, as proclaimed by, Ishamel Harris, the city's mayor during the celebration.

By 5:30 p.m., the building was already packed with guests eager to join the festivities. In a true community-powered moment, Carlos made a quick call to his neighbors at Casa Chapala in Cedar Creek, who came through in under 30 minutes with an additional 50 event chairs, ensuring everyone had a seat and could fully enjoy the night. Their generosity embodied the heart of the evening: community, connection, and celebration.

This year's celebration featured special appearances by Mayor Ishmael Harris and the crowned King and Queen of Mardi Gras from the local senior center, adding a meaningful and joyful touch to the evening. Returning favorites The Peterson Brothers, Alex and Glenn, once again energized the crowd with their dynamic live performance, while guests were also treated to a special appearance by THEBROSFRESH, a talented Louisiana-born brother duo consisting of Torrence and Thurman Thomas.

Adding to the authenticity of the experience, Carlos's high school best friends, Jim and David, traveled into town and spent the entire day preparing homemade Louisiana-style jambalaya, filling the showroom with rich aromas and heartfelt hospitality. Guests were also treated to legendary Manny Randazzo King Cakes, shipped directly from New Orleans. In true Mardi Gras fashion, the cakes were paraded through the showroom and crowd before being served, creating a celebratory moment that delighted attendees.

A highlight of the evening was the return of the traditional second-line march, led once again by acclaimed local composer and jazz trumpeter Hannibal Lokumbe, as a sea of colorful decorated parasols filled the showroom, waving and dancing in true New Orleans fashion. Known for his powerful musical storytelling and deep cultural roots, Lokumbe brought the celebration to life, guiding guests through the dealership in a joyful procession that embodied the energy, tradition, and heart of Mardi Gras.
